Ambrose Alli University (AAU) in Ekpoma, Edo State, has been thrown into the spotlight following a major disciplinary decision by its highest administrative body. ValidViewNetwork reports that the management of the institution has officially stripped Dr. Edomwonyi Omon Edwin of his rank as a Professor, a prestigious academic title previously bestowed upon him by the university. The decisive action has sent shockwaves through the academic community, highlighting the institution’s strict stance on regulatory compliance. ValidViewNetwork reports that the directive was made public through an official statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Mrs. Oluwayomi Agbebaku, and published on the institution’s social media channels.
The administrative shift comes after deep institutional review during a high-level assembly, ValidViewNetwork reports. The statement posted on the AAU Facebook page specified that the decision was a direct sequel to the Governing Council’s 241th regular meeting held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The affected academic, Dr. Edomwonyi, belongs to the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology within the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, where he had been elevated to the professorial rank before the reversal, ValidViewNetwork reports.
University authorities tied the drastic measure to fundamental regulatory infractions. The management explained that the withdrawal of the professorial title was a result of an alleged serious breach of the university’s Regulations and Schemes Governing Senior Staff, 2017, as amended.
The official communication explicitly laid out the Council’s mandate: “The Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University at its 241 regular meeting held on Tuesday, 17th March, 2026, has approved the withdrawal of Dr. Edomwonyi Omon Edwin’s promotion to the rank of a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The withdrawal is a sequel to the serious breach of the University Regulations and Schemes Governing Senior Staff 2017 as amended,” the statement said. Following this declaration, the school urged Edomwonyi to “stop parading himself as a professor of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, with immediate effect.”
Further institutional confirmation followed the public release. When contacted, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, the PAR/Head of Information, Protocol & Public Relations, confirmed that the statement is actually from the university. The university did not, however, disclose details of the alleged breach that resulted in the withdrawal of the promotion. This dramatic unfolding leaves a lingering cloud of mystery over the exact nature of the infractions, marking a defining moment for academic accountability at AAU Ekpoma as the institution firmly draws the line on senior staff conduct.
