Delivery Driver Jailed for Raping Vulnerable Woman Moments After Leaving Hospital

A delivery driver who preyed on a vulnerable woman moments after she left a hospital Accident and Emergency department has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison in a case that has sparked outrage across the United Kingdom.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the victim had just left Worthing Hospital’s A&E department on the evening of March 11 when the attack occurred.

According to court proceedings, the woman was described as “intoxicated, confused and unsteady on her feet” when she encountered 27 year old delivery driver Suleman Mukaish.

Rather than offering assistance, Mukaish allegedly seized the opportunity to target the vulnerable woman. Prosecutors told the court that he grabbed her by the arm and led her away from the vicinity of the hospital into the Lyndhurst Road car park located opposite the medical facility.

It was in the car park that Mukaish raped the woman over the bonnet of a vehicle before fleeing the scene, ValidViewNetwork reports.

The victim was later discovered in a distressed condition by a member of the public who alerted authorities. Police officers subsequently launched an investigation, during which the woman identified the vehicle involved in the attack.

ValidViewNetwork reports that forensic specialists recovered handprints and fingerprints from the car, evidence that ultimately linked Mukaish to the crime.

During court proceedings, it emerged that Mukaish had completed a Master’s degree in computer science in the United Kingdom and was living and working in the country on a valid visa at the time of the offence.

Investigators also revealed that Mukaish appeared to be preparing to leave the country shortly after the attack. Just two days after the incident, police intercepted him at Gatwick Airport where he was reportedly carrying a one way ticket to Pakistan, ValidViewNetwork reports.

The court heard that Mukaish was assisted by an Urdu interpreter throughout the hearing. He had previously pleaded guilty to rape at Lewes Crown Court on April 13.

Sentencing him, the judge imposed a prison term of eight years and three months. The court also ordered that he spend an additional three years on extended licence following his eventual release from custody.

Addressing the defendant, the judge said she believed there remained a risk of future offending. She stated that Mukaish was “clearly a highly intelligent person” with no known mental health or substance misuse issues. However, she reminded him that on March 11, “you raped a complete stranger.”

The case has drawn widespread public attention because of the victim’s vulnerability and the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The conviction underscores the critical role of forensic evidence and swift police action in securing justice for victims of sexual violence.

As Mukaish begins his prison sentence, the judgment serves as a powerful reminder that those who exploit vulnerable individuals will ultimately be held accountable under the law, while survivors can find hope in the determination of investigators and the courts to pursue justice without compromise.
