Former Governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has officially resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Daily Trust learnt that the former Governor’s resignation is contained in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman at Ward 7 in Ondo West local government area.
He said in the letter dated April 10, 2026 and personally signed by him, “I hereby tender my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective April 10, 2026, for strictly personal reasons.
“As you are very much aware, I have somewhat distanced myself from party activities for sometime. This stance afforded me a great deal of time to reflect and consult widely, upon which the decision to quit the PDP was taken.
“Let me add that I take the decision to resign my membership of the PDP without animosity toward anyone, and wish the Party well in its future endeavors.”
Mimiko who has largely been away from partisan politics for a while, in the resignation letter said: “speculations and inquiries about my membership status have made it necessary for me to clarify my position”.
“As I have been somewhat distanced from party activities, I wish to put it on record that I am no longer a member of the PDP.”
The former governor said he took the decision “without animosity toward anyone.”
His followers had foremost resigned en-mass way back to support the election of the current Ondo Governor, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

His core loyalists like Hon Iranola Joseph Akinlaja, Hon Alaba Lad Ojomo, Engineer Gboye Adegbenro, Rt Hon Jumoke Akindele, Jide Adejuyigbe, Ms Taiwo Afilaka, Chief Mrs Funmilola Oluwadare, Hon Oladipupo Ajani, Comrade Solomon Adelegan, Comrade Femi Bosede, Hon Adesoji Ayenuro and Eni Akinsola among others, had joined the APC and subsequently worked for the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa.
Eni Akinsola, who served as Mimiko’s CPS, when asked to confirm said, “it is true that the former governor has formally turned in his resignation letter from the PDP,” but did not volunteer any further information.
