Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate, has escalated his bid for the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland throne by filing a formal petition to the Ogun State Executive Council. The document, drafted by his counsel Wahab Shittu SAN and dated January 8, 2026, accuses the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of procedural irregularities that unlawfully barred him from the nomination process held on January 12, 2026. Marshall asserts his eligibility as a verified member of the ruling house and demands a fresh, inclusive selection exercise overseen by state authorities.
Petition Details and Allegations
The petition highlights that over 60 aspirants vied for the prestigious stool, yet Marshall claims the process deviated from the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law 2021 and the 1959 Awujale Chieftaincy Declaration. It criticizes the ruling house for imposing unauthorized requirements, such as nomination forms and screening panels, which the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Secretary’s directive of January 6 neither mandated nor endorsed. Marshall warns of disenfranchisement risks for eligible members and urges Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene for fairness and legal compliance.
Ruling House Response and Disputes
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House had earlier disqualified Marshall in December 2025, stating their investigation found no evidence linking him to the Jadiara or Fusengbuwa lineages. Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf dismissed the latest petition as misguided, defending the screening as essential amid numerous candidates. Meanwhile, the rival Fidipote Royal House—Marshall’s claimed lineage—notified authorities on December 17, 2025, that Fusengbuwa’s 14-day nomination window had lapsed, positioning themselves as next in line per tradition.
Broader Context
This dispute follows the Awujale stool’s vacancy, sparking intense competition in Ijebuland. Marshall’s prior legal withdrawal and repeated appeals underscore his determination, amid claims from family representatives denying his membership. As Ogun State reviews the matter, the outcome could reshape chieftaincy protocols and test state mediation in royal successions
