Lagos, – Dr. Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, a veteran education administrator with over two decades of experience in curriculum innovation and quality control, formally assumed duties as Director-General of the Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) on Monday, December 15, 2025.
The investiture ceremony at OEQA headquarters brimmed with jubilation, as staff, management, and education stakeholders from across Lagos’s six districts converged in a blend of song, dance, and prayers. Participants offered heartfelt thanks to God for positioning Dr. Ogunmuyiwa—a PhD holder in Education Management and former key player in the state’s ministry reforms—to lead the agency toward unprecedented excellence. The event featured interfaith invocations, with Muslim and Christian leaders beseeching divine wisdom for his tenure.

Coordinating Directors from all six education districts, alongside Heads of Departments, delivered glowing goodwill messages. They praised Dr. Ogunmuyiwa’s track record, including his contributions to teacher training programs and school inspection frameworks that have bolstered learning outcomes in under-resourced areas. “We are confident he will propel OEQA to new heights, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision,” one director noted.

Attendees, including Dr. Ogunmuyiwa’s mother, Alhaja Ramota Ogunmuyiwa; wife, Mrs. Kudirat Ogunmuyiwa; family members; OEQA evaluators; and sector stakeholders, filled the hall with optimism. Many expressed belief that his leadership would amplify OEQA’s role in monitoring over 1,000 public schools, tackling issues like infrastructure deficits and teacher absenteeism amid Lagos’s 25 million-plus population.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa radiated humility and resolve. He thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; Head of Service Mr. Bode Agoro; Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun; and Permanent Secretary Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite for their trust.
“The overwhelming support from colleagues, friends, and well-wishers statewide and beyond is both inspiring and a profound responsibility,” he said. Extending gratitude to his family, he pledged unwavering dedication: “By God’s grace, I’ll hit the ground running, don my thinking cap, and deliver my best to fortify quality assurance while boosting learning outcomes at basic and secondary levels across Lagos.”

This appointment underscores the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES+ Agenda push for education transformation. OEQA, established to enforce standards in public schools, has intensified audits since 2023, identifying gaps in 30% of inspected facilities. Stakeholders anticipate Dr. Ogunmuyiwa’s expertise—honed through collaborations with SUBEB and international partners like UNESCO—will drive innovations such as digital monitoring tools and community engagement drives.

As Lagos grapples with rapid urbanization straining its education system, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa’s tenure promises a renewed focus on equity and excellence.
