The victims, aged 15 to 20, were seized on November 23 while working on family farmlands around 5 p.m., sparking community alarm and prompting police confirmation of the incident. The rescue occurred on November 29 through a rapid, intelligence-driven raid in southern Borno, with no troop casualties reported.
Now at a secure military base, the girls—Fatima Shaibu (17), Fatima Umaru (15), Hauwa Abubakar (18), Saliha Muhammed (15), Sadiya Umaru (17), Amira Babel (15), Zara Adamu (17), Nana Shaibu (15), Zainab Musa (18), Zainab Muhammed (17), Jamila Saidu (15), and Hauwa Hamidu (17)—undergo medical checks, counseling, and debriefing before reuniting with families. Local leaders expressed relief, noting all captives were recovered intact amid rising youth abductions nationwide. This success highlights ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai, which recently freed 86 other victims in the region.
Military leaders praised soldiers’ resolve and credited local tips alongside security partners for the outcome. Troops now hunt remaining ISWAP fighters to curb further threats in southern Borno. The Army urged residents to share timely intelligence, stressing joint action against terrorism.
