
Olusegun Awolowo, esteemed lawyer and grandson of the late Nigerian sage Chief Obafemi Awolowo, has passed away at the age of 62. Olusegun served notably as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) for two consecutive terms, dedicating much of his life to advancing Nigeria’s economic interests.
A respected figure in both the legal and public service sectors, Olusegun was known for his visionary approach to Nigeria’s export development, including pioneering initiatives under the government’s economic diversification agenda. His tenure at NEPC saw a notable expansion of Nigeria’s non-oil exports and strengthened international trade partnerships.
The Awolowo family released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and patriot:
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Olusegun Awolowo. He was an exceptional family man—steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the solid anchor of our family. A loyal servant to Nigeria, he committed his life to serving the country with integrity, passion, and unwavering dedication.
He was deeply loved by his family and everyone who knew him. He cherished his work, his family, and his nation. Every day, he lived with humility and a generous spirit that influenced all around him.
Though we are shattered by his loss, we remain profoundly grateful for his life, legacy, and the love he generously shared. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Olusegun Awolowo’s passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the Awolowo legacy of public service and national development. His contributions continue to inspire generations across Nigeria.
