The startled passenger alerted the cabin crew moments before takeoff, igniting a tense situation on board.
An astute fellow passenger recalled seeing another man, who was subsequently deboarded by the airline, interacting suspiciously with the foreigner’s bag earlier during boarding. When questioned, the man initially denied any wrongdoing, but the report of the missing money and his earlier movements aroused suspicion.
Despite an initial search of the man’s carry-on luggage revealing nothing, another passenger recommended a body search. Upon conducting this, the flight crew discovered the missing N290,000 concealed in the man’s socks and on his seat. Promptly, airport security was called to take over the matter, and the suspect was peacefully deboarded before the plane departed for Abuja.
This unexpected turn of events left fellow passengers shaken and disappointed. Many questioned the motive behind such an act, especially given the significant cost of the flight ticket, cited at N200,000.
