EFCC’s Firm Rule of Law Compliance, Urges Judicial Support Amid Challenges

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its unwavering adherence to the rule of law, particularly compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 in its investigations. She made this commendation on August 28, 2025, during a courtesy visit from Deputy Commander of EFCC and newly appointed Acting Zonal Director of the Kano Zone, DCE Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.

Justice Aboki emphasized the EFCC’s meticulous observance of legal provisions, especially relating to the taking of confessional statements, which are vital for maintaining the integrity of criminal prosecutions. Sa’ad highlighted the visit’s purpose as strengthening the cooperative relationship between the EFCC and the judiciary, seeking continued judicial support.

However, Sa’ad raised concerns over the frequent issuance of restraining orders, which often hamper the EFCC’s ability to investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes effectively. To address delays in justice, he suggested the designation of specific judges to handle EFCC cases to quicken trial proceedings.

In response, Justice Aboki assured ongoing judicial support governed strictly by law, urging the EFCC to enhance the training of its personnel for efficient prosecutions. On the issue of restraining orders, she guaranteed judicious scrutiny before granting any, ensuring compelling evidence underpins such decisions.

This event underscores the ongoing collaboration efforts to bolster Nigeria’s fight against corruption within the framework of law, with the judiciary reaffirming its pivotal role in the process amid challenges identified by anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC
