
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, have successfully apprehended 38 individuals on allegations of internet fraud during a targeted raid at Mambillah Hotel located on Omodisu Street, Ikorodu, Lagos. The operation was triggered by credible intelligence and involved thorough surveillance aimed at dismantling suspected cybercrime activities within the area.
During the raid, the EFCC recovered several items believed to be connected with illegal activities, including multiple vehicles, smartphones, and a variety of psychoactive and controlled substances. The arrested suspects are currently undergoing further investigations and will be arraigned in court once the inquiry is complete.
In a related development, two brothers, Teddy Ovbokhan Hart and Rooney Odion Hart, along with ten other individuals, were recently convicted and sentenced to jail by Justice M. Itsueli of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City. The 12 convicts faced prosecution by the EFCC’s Benin Zonal Directorate on charges including advance fee fraud, obtaining by false pretenses, retention of proceeds of crime, and possession of fraudulent documents.
The convicted individuals alongside the Hart brothers include Thompson Ogbeide, Iria Saturday Blessed, Igbinomwania Lucky Godspower, Ojiezele Felix, Akhigbe Gideon, Osazuwa Oghomwen, Agbonifo Iziegbe, Lucky Osagie, Osemwegie Efosa Michael, and Victor Ojeisemi.
These coordinated efforts by the EFCC underscore the agency’s commitment to curbing cybercrime and fraud in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos and Edo states, reinforcing their resolve to bring perpetrators to justice.
