Gunmen Kidnap FMC Health Worker, Police Launch Manhunt

Gunmen abducted Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, a staff member of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, Ondo State, on Thursday evening, sparking alarm across the community and among health workers. The incident occurred at around 7 p.m. at Akesinro’s residence in Upenme community, Owo Local Government Area.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, confirmed the kidnapping on Friday and stated that security operatives, working alongside other sister security agencies and local vigilantes, have launched a thorough manhunt to rescue the victim and bring the abductors to justice. He assured the public that the police are leaving no stone unturned and are fully committed to ensuring the safety of all residents across the state.

“Our men are currently combing the forests in collaboration with other security agencies to rescue Pastor Akesinro,” the police commissioner said. “We are engaging with local communities to strengthen community policing and ensure the people of Ondo State can sleep peacefully.”

The abduction has heightened concerns over rising kidnapping cases in the state, especially amid recent incidents including a similar attack on a university staff member just weeks ago.

The National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) expressed deep shock and distress over the incident, calling for urgent action and warning of potential protests in Owo to demand Akesinro’s immediate and safe release. Other health professional bodies have condemned the attack, describing it as a grave affront to peace and security.
