Ogun Govt Rejects Gbenga Daniel’s Allegations, Clarifies Demolition Notices

The Ogun State Government has robustly refuted claims made by Senator Gbenga Daniel regarding the issuance of quit and demolition notices on some of his properties in Sagamu. In a statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the government described the senator’s allegations as unfounded and politically motivated, asserting that the notices are part of a lawful, routine town planning exercise under the Ogun State Town Planning Law.

According to the government, the current urban renewal efforts in Ogun State, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, involve extensive redevelopment and auditing of properties in Government Reserved Areas (GRA) located in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and Abeokuta as part of a broader vision to modernize towns into smart cities. This initiative audits all developments—including houses, schools, hospitals, and commercial buildings—to verify compliance with planning permits and land titles. Notably, this regulatory oversight extends to all properties in these areas without exemptions, reflecting a continuation of policies even during Daniel’s tenure as governor.

Senator Gbenga Daniel’s properties, including his residence at Asoludero Court and Conference Hotels Limited in Sagamu GRA, were among those served notices after audits revealed suspected irregularities. The government emphasized that these notices were issued simultaneously to many other structures and that the senator should comply by presenting the necessary documents for verification within the specified time, rather than politicizing the matter.

The government criticized Senator Daniel for what it called a rush to politicize a lawful process and for portraying the governor’s actions as personal vendetta and political persecution. It maintained that no individual is above the law and that Senator Daniel, a former governor who once swore to uphold the laws of Ogun State, should respect the legal procedures just as other residents do.

Governor Abiodun’s administration highlighted its commitment to urban regeneration, affordable housing, and infrastructural development across Ogun State, including ongoing projects in Ibara GRA and other major towns. These initiatives are aimed at transforming dilapidated areas into livable, modern smart cities with enhanced amenities and infrastructure.
