The Bayelsa State Government has responded to reports of a planned demonstration by the Forum of Affected Teachers in the Service of the Bayelsa State Post Primary Schools Board, scheduled to take place from Monday, July 28, to Friday, August 1, 2025. According to a statement from Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, Commissioner for Education, the government believes the proposed protest is unwarranted, stating that the concerns raised by the teachers have already been addressed through proper channels.
The government has expressed apprehension that such a public procession might lead to a breach of public order or be taken over by actors with ulterior motives. As a result, officials are urging the teachers to reconsider and refrain from embarking on any protest activities.
In a move to maintain open communication and constructive engagement, the government has invited the leadership of the affected teachers’ group for a dialogue with the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhurdjakpo. The meeting is scheduled as follows:
- Date: Monday, July 28, 2025
- Time: 2pm
- Venue: Conference Hall, Deputy Governor’s Office, Government House, Yenagoa
Teachers are encouraged to channel their grievances through this official meeting to ensure a peaceful resolution and continued harmony within the state’s education sector. The statement reiterates the administration’s commitment to addressing all issues raised by its workforce in a transparent and amicable manner.
