NOA Leads Stakeholder Drive to Combat Insecurity in FCT

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has taken decisive action against the surge in insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by hosting a robust stakeholder engagement at El-Rufai Motor Park in Nyanya. The gathering united key representatives from security agencies, community leaders, youth groups, transport unions, and grassroots organizations.

Addressing attendees, NOA Director Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu—represented by Barrister Theresa Nnalue, Director of Community Safety, Awareness and Compliance—highlighted the government’s deep concern over rising security threats in the FCT. She reiterated the NOA’s critical mandate to educate citizens and foster public cooperation with law enforcement to tackle insecurity. Stressing the symbolic importance of the FCT as the nation’s heart, she called for “collective efforts from all sectors to make the territory a model of safety, unity, and resilience.”

Mr. Olubiyi Sunday, Head of Internal Security Service at the FCT Security Services Department, praised the tireless work of security agencies in preserving peace across the territory. He noted that the FCT Minister is actively overseeing the construction of police posts in all area councils to strengthen law enforcement presence.

The event also featured a keynote address from Prince Ache Ogu Julius, Chairman of the Coalition of Road Safety NGOs in Nigeria. He appealed to citizens to “support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities promptly,” urging communal vigilance as a key front in crime prevention.

Attendees included representatives from the Nigeria Police, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN). The forum fostered interactive dialogue with a question-and-answer session and disseminated informational materials in multiple local languages, including Hausa, Igbo, and Igala, to ensure wide community understanding and involvement.

The NOA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining active engagement with all stakeholders to safeguard the nation’s capital and empower residents with knowledge and tools to address insecurity.
