
The Senate Committee on Navy, headed by Chairman Senator Gbenga Daniel, paid an oversight visit to the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bonny, Rivers State, on July 24, 2025. Senator Daniel and his fellow lawmakers were received by the Commanding Officer, Captain ET Fingesi, who provided a comprehensive briefing on the base’s operations, achievements, and ongoing challenges.
During the visit, Senator Daniel praised the discipline and professionalism displayed by naval personnel at the base, describing their commitment as exemplary. He acknowledged several operational difficulties highlighted by Captain Fingesi, including infrastructure and logistics needs, and assured the base’s leadership of the Committee’s readiness to advocate for improved resources and working conditions through legislative action.


Senator Daniel emphasized the crucial role of FOB Bonny in safeguarding national assets and maritime routes in the Niger Delta, pledging sustained collaboration between the legislature and the Navy to bolster security and support the welfare of military personnel.

The visit underscores the Senate Committee’s commitment to effective oversight and the strengthening of Nigeria’s naval capacity in critical coastal regions.
