Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday(today) that Israel has accepted a ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, marking an end to the 12-day war with Iran. Netanyahu stated Israel had achieved all its war objectives, including neutralizing Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile threats, damaging its military leadership, and gaining control over Tehran’s airspace.
The ceasefire came after intense missile exchanges: Iran launched a final barrage targeting Israel early Tuesday, killing at least four civilians and injuring eight, while Israel conducted heavy airstrikes across Iran until shortly before the ceasefire took effect. Iran declared the ceasefire began at 7:30 a.m. local time, with Israeli forces advising citizens to remain near shelters despite the truce.
The ceasefire was brokered through direct talks between Trump and Netanyahu, with U.S. officials and Qatar mediating communications with Iran. The U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend were cited as a key factor pushing Israel to agree to the ceasefire. Iran retaliated with a limited missile strike on a U.S. base in Qatar but gave prior warning to avoid casualties.
Netanyahu warned Israel would respond forcefully to any ceasefire violations, underscoring the fragile nature of the truce. The conflict has resulted in at least 24 Israeli deaths and nearly 1,000 Iranian casualties, including civilians and security personnel.
President Trump called the ceasefire the “Official END” of the “12 Day War,” expressing hope for lasting peace and thanking Qatar for its mediation role.
