MAJOR ARMS BUST: Troops Intercept 164,000 Cartridges Bound for IPOB/ESN in Anambra, Two Arrested

AWKA, ANAMBRA – In a significant breakthrough against illegal arms proliferation and separatist activities, troops of Sector 5 of Operation UDO KA, in a joint operation with operatives of the 63 Brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS), have intercepted a truck laden with over 164,000 live cartridges in Anambra State. The massive consignment is believed to have been destined for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The operation, which unfolded over two days, began with credible intelligence that led to the arrest of a suspected arms courier, Mr. Emeka Omenife, along the bustling Asaba–Onitsha expressway on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Omenife was immediately handed over to the DSS for intensive interrogation.

During questioning, Omenife reportedly provided crucial confessions, admitting to his involvement in a sophisticated syndicate responsible for transporting ammunition from Ghana into Nigeria, specifically for IPOB/ESN operatives. This confession proved instrumental in advancing the investigation.

Following Omenife’s revelations, security forces swiftly moved to apprehend his alleged accomplice, Mr. Uchenna Obiora. Obiora was arrested at the Onitsha–Awka tollgate on Friday, May 30, 2025, where he was reportedly awaiting the delivery of the illicit ammunition. His arrest directly led to the interception of the truck, which had the substantial cache of cartridges cleverly concealed within.

While details surrounding the exact origin and intended distribution network of the ammunition remain under active investigation, this interception marks a major blow to the logistical capabilities of proscribed groups operating in the Southeast. The successful joint operation underscores the commitment of Nigerian security agencies to curbing insecurity and dismantling networks that threaten peace and stability in the region.

Both suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges related to illegal arms trafficking and terrorism financing as investigations continue.
