Body of Missing Lagos Banker Found with Machete Cuts, Family Suspects Murder

LAGOS, Nigeria – The mysterious disappearance of Osemudiamen Idemudia, a 26-year-old Point-of-Sale banker, has taken a grim turn with the discovery of his body at a morgue in Yaba, Lagos. Idemudia, who worked with a commercial bank in the Ikota area of Lagos State, was last seen on the evening of May 9 in the bustling CMS area. His family, who had reported him missing, found his body on Sunday, bearing deep machete cuts to his head, face, and legs, leading to strong suspicions of murder.

A relative, who identified himself simply as Segun, expressed the family’s devastation, stating, “We have found Osemudiamen’s body. He was murdered. We found the body on Sunday in a morgue at Yaba with machete cuts on his head, face, and legs. I’m so sad.”

The circumstances surrounding the discovery have further complicated the tragedy. Segun revealed that morgue attendants claimed the body was brought in by the police. However, efforts to ascertain where the body was recovered from, or the identities of the officers involved, proved futile. “The staff members of the morgue claimed that the body was brought in by the police but when we asked where they brought the body from, they could not provide an answer. They said they did not have details of the policemen who brought the corpse to their facility. That made the discovery more complicated,” Segun lamented.

The late banker’s father, Julius Idemudia, recounted the events leading up to his son’s disappearance. Osemudiamen had left his office in Ikota on May 9 with a colleague for a scheduled appointment with a senior staff member at the bank’s headquarters in CMS, Lagos Island. Upon their arrival, the meeting was unexpectedly cancelled. The two colleagues then decided to head home. It was after parting ways with his colleague that Osemudiamen was neither seen nor heard from again.

“Osemudiamen has been missing since Friday, May 9,” his father stated. “He resumed at his office in Ikota that morning and later planned to go to the head office with a colleague after work for an appointment they had with a senior staff member. However, while they were on their way, the official called to say he wouldn’t be able to see them until Monday. When they eventually got to CMS, they parted ways. As usual, Osemudiamen was expected to board a bus to Iyana Ipaja, and from there, take another bus to Igando. But when it started getting late and we hadn’t heard from him, we became worried. After 24 hours of no contact, we raised the alarm. Since then, we haven’t heard from him. Our hearts are heavy with worry. This is so unlike him, and we are deeply concerned for his safety and well-being.”

The family proceeded with the burial of Osemudiamen Idemudia on Tuesday. As of now, there have been no official statements from the police regarding an investigation into the suspected murder or the circumstances under which the body was brought to the morgue. This case highlights the need for transparent police procedures and a thorough investigation to bring clarity and justice to the grieving family.
