FCT Minister Wike Unveils 19-Day Project Commissioning Spree to Mark Tinubu’s Second Anniversary

Abuja, FCT – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is set to witness an unprecedented wave of infrastructure development as Minister Nyesom Wike has scheduled a 19-day project commissioning exercise to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year in office. The extensive program is slated to commence on June 10, 2025, and will run consecutively, showcasing a wide array of completed projects across the capital city and its environs.

The decision was formalized during the 14th Executive Committee meeting of the FCTA, chaired by Minister Wike himself. According to a statement released by Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, the initiative underscores the FCTA’s commitment to delivering tangible dividends of democracy and improving the quality of life for FCT residents.

Among the key projects earmarked for commissioning are:

1.The newly renovated Abuja International Conference Centre: A significant upgrade to a vital national facility.

2.Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals: Expected to enhance public transportation and ease commuting within the city.

3.Apo-Wassa road: A crucial link improving connectivity.

4.N16 interchange and connecting roads from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi: Aimed at decongesting traffic and facilitating smoother movement.

5.Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road): A major arterial road set to reduce travel time.

6.CN8 from N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to Court of Appeal: Further improving road networks.

7.N20 Flyover Onnex Kubwa Road: Addressing a critical traffic bottleneck.

8.Life Junction to Ring Road III: Another vital road infrastructure project.

9.Kabulsa-Takushara Access Road and Kabusa-Ketti Access Road: Enhancing accessibility in these areas.

10.Access road in Giri District: Boosting connectivity to this district.

11.15km Road from A2 Junction Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council: A significant rural road project.

12.Ushafa, War College, and Army Checkpoint roads in Bwari Area Council: Improving infrastructure in these strategic locations.

In addition to the commissioning ceremonies, the FCT Executive Committee has also approved the award of a contract for the extensive upgrade of streetlights on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Ring Road I). Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), revealed that this project involves modernizing obsolete streetlights on the 14-kilometer, 10-lane expressway stretching from Maitama to Gudu. He noted that the existing streetlights, installed between 2005 and 2006, have become inefficient, leaving many parts of the road in darkness. The upgrade will see the deployment of a hybrid street lighting system to enhance brightness, security, and overall motorability at night.

This ambitious 19-day commissioning schedule highlights the FCTA’s vigorous push for infrastructure development, aiming to underscore the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration in its second year. Residents and stakeholders are expected to witness a period of sustained public works unveiling across the Federal Capital Territory.
