Tragedy in Ikorodu: Teenager Ends Life Over Perceived Low Exam Score, Receives University Admission Posthumously

Ikorodu, Lagos State – Grief has enveloped the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu following the tragic death of Faith Timilehin, a promising teenager who took her own life on Monday. The young woman, originally from Abeokuta, was residing with her elder sister in Ikorodu and harboured aspirations of pursuing a degree in Microbiology.

According to family members and neighbours, the late Timilehin was known for her calm demeanour, respectful nature, and strong academic ambitions. Her hopes were reportedly dashed when she received a score of 190 in her recent university entrance examination, which she perceived as a decline from her previous year’s result. A close friend confided in News Central that Timilehin had expressed her disappointment, stating that her “last year’s result was better than this year’s.”

In a desperate act, Timilehin ingested a substance identified locally as “Push Out,” a common rodenticide. Subsequently, she went to her sister’s workplace and requested palm oil, seemingly in an attempt to alleviate the resulting pain. Unaware of the grave situation, her sister initially did not attend to her request. However, Timilehin’s deteriorating condition soon raised alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours and sympathisers.
An eyewitness corroborated that Timilehin confessed en route to the hospital that she had consumed poison at home before arriving at her sister’s office. Despite frantic efforts to save her life, she was pronounced dead at Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan.

In a cruel twist of fate, a mere 30 minutes after her passing, a provisional admission message from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) arrived in Timilehin’s Gmail inbox. A devastated family source revealed, “The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail yesterday, immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital, Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos.”

Following this heart-wrenching incident, Timilehin’s grieving parents travelled from Abeokuta to retrieve her body for burial.
