Man Who Researched Southport Killings Jailed for Attempted Murder of Girl, 9

Bournemouth, Dorset – A 29-year-old man with a disturbing interest in child murders, including the recent Southport killings, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the attempted murder of a nine-year-old girl. Jordan Wilkes was convicted at Bournemouth Crown Court for the brutal attack that occurred on August 20, 2024, in the stairwell of his Christchurch flat.

The court heard that the young victim was playing with a friend when Wilkes emerged from his residence and, concealing a folding pocket knife, approached them. Prosecutor Berenice Mulvanny detailed how Wilkes then stabbed the girl in the neck, chest, and knee, while grabbing her arm and hair. Shockingly, Ms. Mulvanny suggested Wilkes tore a clump of the girl’s hair out, potentially intending to keep it as a “trophy” until his mother intervened.

The two brave girls managed to escape and alert residents, who provided refuge until emergency services arrived. The victim was hospitalized with serious stab wounds, and the court was told she will suffer permanent scarring and significant psychological trauma, having been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Her mother, in a victim impact statement, described the devastating impact on their family, stating her daughter is no longer the “happy carefree child” she once was.

A search of Wilkes’s home uncovered multiple hidden knives. Further analysis of his mobile phone revealed an alarming collection of 69 files related to murders and child killings. This included material on the “Valentine’s Day massacre” in Florida, the aftermath of the Southport dance class murders in July 2024, and the case of Aiden Fucci, who murdered 13-year-old Tristyn Bailey in Florida in 2021 – a case Wilkes researched on the very day of his attack. Notably, just a day after the Southport tragedy, Wilkes had reportedly clicked on a link for a local dance class.

The court also learned of Wilkes’s previous violent conduct, including a 14-month suspended sentence for a “brutal” assault on an eight-year-old boy in 2016, where he punched, kicked, and stamped on the child’s head, causing unconsciousness. Additionally, he was suspected of setting fire to a pram in 2020 and had verbally abused a child with special educational needs in 2022.

Sentencing Wilkes, Judge William Mousley KC declared him a “dangerous offender” with a “significant risk of…causing serious harm to others in the future.” He stated, “You had an interest in child-killing and you decided to try it out for yourself.” The judge commended the two girls for their “great bravery.”

Nick Robinson, defending, described Wilkes as living an “isolated” life and having a low IQ. He argued the attack was “unplanned and spontaneous” and claimed his client was “remorseful.”
Detective Chief Inspector Aimee Schock of Dorset Police praised the young victim and her friend for their courage and the swift response of emergency services. Kelly Newman, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wessex, emphasized the “horrific manner” of the attack and acknowledged the bravery of the children involved.
The sentencing brings to a close a harrowing case that highlights the potential dangers of individuals consumed by violent interests and the lasting impact of such crimes on victims and their families.
