Eyewitness accounts and video footage obtained by reporters painted a grim picture of the domestic dispute. Sources indicated that Olamide, in the heat of an argument with his wife, grabbed an iron rod, believed to be part of his weightlifting equipment, intending to harm her. Tragically, the blow missed his intended target and instead struck young Ayinde on the head.

Mrs. Bolatito, a co-tenant who witnessed the immediate aftermath, recounted the harrowing moments. “Around midnight, I was jolted awake by the mother’s desperate cries for help. She was screaming that Ola had killed Ayinde. We immediately tried to get him medical attention, rushing him to Trinity Hospital. Although he was initially pronounced dead, we noticed signs of life upon returning home and raced him back to the hospital, only to receive the devastating news of his death a second time.”

Disturbingly, Mrs. Bolatito alleged a history of domestic violence within the household. “This isn’t the first instance of abuse. Tragically, she lost a previous pregnancy due to his violent behaviour,” she claimed.
Mr. Ramoni Adegbola, Chairman of the Community Development Association, confirmed the tragic event. “Residents alerted me to the commotion. Upon arriving at the scene, I saw the couple with their unconscious child. We swiftly transported him to the hospital, but unfortunately, our efforts were in vain.”
Mr. Adegbola further revealed that Olamide was known within the community for his violent tendencies and struggles with substance abuse. “There was an incident where he collapsed after taking something, requiring the intervention of neighbours to revive him. It’s deeply regrettable that things have escalated to this tragic point.”
Following the incident, Olamide reportedly fled the scene but later surrendered himself to the appropriate authorities.

“We are aware of the unfortunate incident in the Elega area of Abeokuta. The suspect is currently in custody, and we have commenced a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic loss of life. We urge residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course,” the spokesperson stated.

The Elega community is reeling from the shock and grief of this heartbreaking incident. Neighbours expressed their sadness and offered condolences to the grieving mother. This tragedy has once again brought the issue of domestic violence to the forefront, prompting calls for greater awareness and intervention to prevent such occurrences in the future.
