IBADAN, OYO STATE – Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, accompanied by former Governor Senator Rashidi Ladoja, conducted an inspection of the Ibadan Circular Road Project on Monday. The project, recently named in honor of Senator Ladoja, is envisioned to revolutionize transportation and development in the region.

The leaders focused their attention on the 32.2-kilometer East Wing, a crucial segment connecting the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road. This section is nearing completion, signaling significant progress on the ambitious infrastructure endeavor.
The Ibadan Circular Road Project was initially conceived during Senator Ladoja’s term as governor (2003-2007) and has been revitalized under Governor Makinde’s leadership. The project is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Ibadan and stimulate industrial growth throughout Oyo State.
Governor Makinde highlighted the project’s significance, calling it Nigeria’s first motorway. “With the Circular Road, we are redefining the city limits, not just for Ibadan but for the majority of local governments surrounding the metropolis,” he stated during the inspection.
The Oyo State government is prioritizing the completion of the first phase, encompassing the 32.2km East Wing and the 36.7km North-East Wing, which extends from Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government.
The inspection was also attended by Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant (General Administration) to the Governor, and other prominent figures. The collaborative effort underscores the commitment to infrastructure development and improved connectivity in Oyo State.
