The Oyo State Government has guaranteed high-quality execution in the ongoing limited rehabilitation of the 83.82-kilometer Iseyin-Okaka-Saki Road.
In a statement released on Thursday, the government emphasized that the project is under the strict supervision of resident engineers from the Oyo State Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, along with a team of engineers, has been actively monitoring the project, including a site visit on February 20, 2025, to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
This reassurance comes in response to a social media post by a state resident alleging poor workmanship on the project. The state government has refuted these claims, asserting that the rehabilitation will be completed to the highest standards.
According to a statement signed by Prof. Shangodoyin, Governor Seyi Makinde approved the palliative work, which includes clearing, turnouts, scarification, removal of unsuitable materials, reinforced concrete retaining wall construction, sub-base and base course material supply, and the laying of a 40mm asphaltic wearing course in critical areas.
The statement further explained that despite the Iseyin-Saki Road being a federal road that has undergone previous rehabilitations by FERMA, its deteriorated condition prompted the Oyo State Government to intervene.
“The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Engr. Seyi Makinde, is committed to providing comfort for its citizens. Despite the road being a Trunk A road, we initiated this rehabilitation to improve conditions for road users,” the statement read.
The government highlighted the project’s progress, noting the completion of asphaltic regulation from Iseyin to Ipapo, asphaltic resurfacing between Ipapo and Alaga Road, stone base laying and asphalting between Okaka and Alaga, and ongoing work between Alaga and Baasi. The remaining tasks involve stone base laying and asphaltic resurfacing between Baasi and Saki. The cost of this palliative work is currently being borne by the Oyo State Government.
