Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State cautioned prospective pilgrims against engaging in money laundering during their spiritual journey and urged them to abstain from any criminal activities while on pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at a one-day seminar and special prayers organized for the Year 2024 Hajj Intending Pilgrims in Ikeja, the governor, represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), emphasized the severity of penalties for money laundering offenses.
He also advised pilgrims to refrain from carrying prohibited items such as hard drugs, kola nuts, and bitter kola, among others, while urging them to uphold respect and positive behavior to enhance the image of Nigeria and Lagos State.
Sanwo-Olu assured the pilgrims of the state government’s commitment to providing sacrificial lambs, visits to holy sites, and spiritual clothing, and encouraged them to pray for the success of Nigeria’s leadership and the peace and progress of Lagos.

In addition, Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Olanrewaju Layode, urged the 1,875 participants from Lagos to demonstrate good conduct and learn from the experiences of previous pilgrims.
The seminar, themed “Significance of Hajj in the Lifetime of Man,” featured a lecture by Chief Imam Sheikh AbdulRahman Lukman, who emphasized the importance of Hajj as a pillar of Islam and an opportunity for spiritual growth and closeness to Allah.
He stressed the need for pilgrims to approach Hajj with sincerity, good deeds, and love for humanity, seeking spiritual benefits and the fear of Allah.
Imam Shakiru Gafar, the Board Chairman, encouraged participants to adhere to regulations and seek clarification when needed, while special prayers were offered for the successful administration of President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, and the residents of Lagos.
