A young blind man named Carruthers Tetteh has bagged a masters degree in Law at the University of Ghana, Accra. He was also appointed as a lecturer of law immediately after he earned the degree.
Tetteh lost his sight at the age of 11 due to a drug reaction stating that the effects occurred after he took a prescribed drug following a visit to a private hospital. Despite loosing his sight, he remain driven by the passion to fulfil his dream for law and advocacy for the less privileged according to Face 2 Face.
Starting his education at the Akropong School for the Blind, Mr. Tetteh later transitioned into mainstream education during junior high school and continued his studies at Okuapeman Senior High School.
He bagged his first degree in English and History with first class at the University of Cape Coast Ghana, where he also emerged as the overall best-graduating student with visual impairment.
Tetteh proceeded to earn another degree in Law with first class from the same university. While in the university, Tetteh dedicated himself to setting the right pace, recognizing his role as the first visually impaired student admitted to the university’s faculty of Law.
After graduation, Tetteh attempted to gain admission to the Ghana School of Law in 2019 but was not accepted. Not giving up with his guiding principles of discipline and consistency, he persevered and secured admission to the Ghana Law School in 2020.
He was called to the Ghana bar in 2022 as a solicitor of Ghana Supreme court. Tetteh then proceeded to earn a Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) from the University of Ghana.
Now, he has been appointed as a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. According to the university’s website, He will be teaching Criminal Law and the Ghana Legal System.
On the day he delivered his very first lecture, Mr Tetteh’s deep knowledge of Criminal Law reportedly won the hearts of his Level 300 students.
