The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has appointed Professor Akinyemi Olukayode Dewunmi as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), succeeding Professor Christian Ikeobi who has successfully completed his tenure.
Professor Akinyemi, an Environmental Geophysict is of the Department of Physics, College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS) of the University. He is the current Director, Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE).
Professor Akinyemi has made significant contributions in the University prior to his new appointment, serving in various capacities such as Acting Head of the Physics Department; Director, Centre for Internationalisation and Partnerships (CENIP); and Director, Directorate of Grants Management (DGM).
Akinyemi is bringing to the table an array of experience spanning over two decades aimed at further strengthening and improving the achievements of the foremost University.

Meanwhile, the appointment of Akinyemi as DVC (Academic) is subject to the approval of the Governing Council, and in the absence of the Council, the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security will serve as the approving authority. This is according to a statement by Olasunkanmi Olajide, the Acting Head, Directorate of Public Relations of the University.
As the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), his responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including the development, administration, and review of academic policies, oversight of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs, management of examinations and admissions, coordination of educational activities across different campuses, collaboration with the University’s commercial arms for strategic academic planning, and representation of the Vice-Chancellor when required.
Additionally, he will chair ad-hoc reviews delegated by the Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Akinyemi is set to assume duties on January 8, 2024.
