A nine-year romance has culminated in a prison cell following a disastrous attempt by a 28-year-old artisan to repossess gifts previously lavished on his partner. Bismark Aduah is currently serving a five-month sentence at the Winneba Local Prison in Ghana after an Afransi Court convicted him of unlawful entry and theft, a consequence of a chaotic midnight retrieval mission that landed both him and his girlfriend on the wrong side of the law.
The tangled legal saga stems from long-standing hostility between Aduah and the mother of his partner, Rebecca. According to accounts shared with crime advocacy channels, the mother maintained a persistent disapproval of their union throughout their nearly decade-long relationship, a friction that ultimately boiled over after the couple relocated to Ashaiman.
Determined to cut ties and recover material possessions previously gifted during happier times, the couple hatched a plan to reclaim the items from the matriarch’s locked residence. Under the cover of the operation, the pair forced open the door and lock to the mother’s private room, stripping it of the disputed belongings before transferring the haul to the safety of the young woman’s father’s residence.
The illicit retrieval, however, proved short-lived. Upon discovering the break-in, the outraged mother immediately lodged formal complaints with law enforcement, prompting a swift police swoop that resulted in the arrest and detention of both lovers.
During subsequent proceedings at the Afransi Court, the bench handed down a stern sentence to deter vigilante property recovery. While Aduah copped a five-month custodial sentence alongside a mandatory fine of GH¢1,560, his partner Rebecca received a lighter term of one month and two weeks.
Aduah disclosed that he has already spent a fortnight behind bars but remains stuck in custody due to his inability to clear the steep financial penalty. Ironically, despite his own financial constraints, the incarcerated lover managed to scrape together funds to settle Rebecca’s fine, securing her early release from detention while he continues to serve out the remainder of his term at Winneba.
This video provides additional context on law enforcement actions and correctional facility updates within the Winneba municipality.
