A group of evil loan sharks killed a woman’s five-year-old son after holding the boy hostage over the paltry $53 she owed them.
The child, identified only as Fernando, was found dead of severe head injuries at a home in La Paz, Mexico on Monday.
Three months earlier, his mother, Noemí Gómez, had borrowed 1,000 pesos – or roughly $53 – from the group to cover the rent on her new home.
The trio of loan sharks paid a visit to her home on July 28 and snatched Fernando, informing Gómez that they were going to hold the boy hostage until the debt was settled.
Gómez visited the residence where she thought her son was being held captive several times.
Each time, the group refused to release the boy because she was unable to pay them back.
Gómez’s neighbor, María Pascual, told NMás news that the mother was nearly assaulted by her son’s captors on one occasion.
‘The day she went to ask for her child, they tried to beat her because she couldn’t speak well,’ Pascual said.
The concerned mother, who is diagnosed with a speech impediment, went to La Paz’s Public Ministry to file a missing person’s report.
She was referred to an office in the town of Nezahualcóyotl, which failed to offer any assistance.
Gómez later visited the State of Mexico Women’s Ministry, which launched an investigation.
On Monday, the state’s prosecutor’s office dispatched a special unit, which raided a home located in the La Paz neighborhood of Ejidal El Pino, where the alleged kidnappers lived.
Once inside, they detected a foul odor and then discovered Fernando’s decomposing body inside a bag.
A forensic report showed that Fernando died from skull fracture stemming from to a blow to the head and that the killers may have used a hammer.
The report also showed that the defenseless boy suffered arm, leg and chest injuries.
‘He was a loving kid and all,’ Gómez told reporters on Thursday.
‘He wasn’t to blame for anything that happened. I want justice for him.’
All three suspects are facing kidnapping and aggravated homicide charges.
They are being held at a jail in Nezahualcóyotl and were scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
