Tragedy hit the Nigerian Law School campus in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Friday morning as a 23-year-old student, Alayande Faith Ajoke, died after allegedly jumping from the rooftop of a four-storey hostel building.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary investigations are underway. According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the school’s matron formally reported the matter to the Victoria Island Police Division.
Reports indicate that the sequence of events unfolded around 4:30 a.m. when a roommate raised an alarm after discovering a distressing note. Before a search party comprising a relative and fellow students could locate her, she had reportedly accessed the roof and fallen to the ground within the hostel premises.
Detectives have since visited the scene, documented the area, and evacuated the remains to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for preservation and autopsy.
This incident highlights growing concerns over student mental health and academic pressures, following a similar tragic occurrence involving a Law School student in the Yola campus late last year. Police authorities have assured the public that a comprehensive inquiry is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
