12-Year-Old Lagos Girl Identifies Masked Neighbour as Attacker Through Distinctive Hand Scar

A 12-year-old girl in Lagos State has identified her alleged attacker as a neighbour after recognising a distinctive scar on his hand, despite the man wearing a nose mask to conceal his face during the assault, her lawyer has revealed.

Barrister Toyin Ndidi Taiwo disclosed the details in a Facebook post on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, after appearing in court to represent the minor. According to the lawyer, the suspect deliberately wore the mask in an attempt to disguise his identity. The young victim, however, noticed and later recalled the unique scar on the man’s hand, a detail that proved critical in linking him to the crime.

“Was in court today to represent my 12 years old client who was raped by a neighbor who deliberately wore nose mask to disguise his face. Unknown to him, my client recognised a scar on his hand and that helped a lot in identifying him as the suspect,” Taiwo wrote.

She went on to commend the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja for what she described as diligent investigative efforts in the case.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of children within their immediate communities and the resourcefulness sometimes shown by young survivors in assisting investigations.
