Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has been reelected for a second term of four years in office.
The All Progressives Congress candidate defeated his closest rival, Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party by 13, 915 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Kayode Adebowale declared that governor Abiodun scored 276,298 followed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 262, 383 while Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 94,754 votes.
“I am the returning officer of the election conducted on 18th March 2023. The election was conducted. That I announced that the All Progressives Congress having satisfied the electoral requirement, I hereby announce Oladapo Abiodun as the winner of the Governorship election and is hereby returned elected”,
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for a rerun of the governorship election over cancellation of results especially in Sagamu Local Government.
The returning officer of the local government, Prof. Eden Gboyega Omoseni, reported at the collation center in Abeokuta on Sunday that several polling units were cancelled in Sagamu Local Government over violence and non usage of BVAS.
The PDP state agent, Sunkanmi Oyejide while protesting against declaring a winner stated that the number of cancelled votes was higher than the margin of victory.
He also read out a petition signed by the Secretary of the party Dr Sunday Solarin calling for rerun of the election.
Prof. Adebowale while noting the PDP objection said INEC has a seven day window to reverse itself, ValidViewNetwork reports.
