Wimbledon-American tennis sensation Amanda Anisimova has defied expectations, securing her maiden Grand Slam final appearance at Wimbledon. The world number 12 battled past top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling three-set semi-final on Thursday, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Anisimova’s fierce determination and fearless shot-making ultimately proved too much for the world number one.
Her victory extends a strong year for American women in Grand Slams, following Madison Keys’ triumph at the Australian Open and Coco Gauff’s success at the French Open.
“This doesn’t feel real right now, honestly,” a beaming Anisimova said after the match. “Aryna is such a tough competitor, and I was absolutely dying out there. To come out on top today and be in the final of Wimbledon is so incredibly special.”
Anisimova will face Poland’s Iga Swiatek in Saturday’s final. Swiatek, a five-time Grand Slam champion, impressively reached her first Wimbledon final by dominating Belinda Bencic with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory in their semi-final match, also held on Thursday. Swiatek expressed surprise at her success on grass courts, a surface where she has historically faced challenges.
The stage is now set for a compelling final between two first-time Wimbledon finalists, promising an exciting conclusion to the women’s singles tournament.
