A prominent alumnus of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who is also a United States (US) top ranking Naval Officer, Lt. Commander Victor Agunbiade recently endowed the University with a sum of One Million Naira.
According to a release by Kola Adepoju, the Director of Public Relations, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Agunbiade, a proud Alumnus of the University has joined other Alumnus of the University in supporting the University through the office of Advancement while challenging others to in various spheres of life to also give back to the University.
“The information was contained in a memo issued by the Head, Office of Advancement, Mr. Johnson Olukehinde, which stated that Lt. Commander Agunbiade who holds a Doctorate Degree in Management was a medal awardee for superior leadership in judicious management of the US Navy’s largest overseas cash disbursement in 2020, adding that he had earlier won a Recruiter of the Year Award in 2018.
“The memo further stated that Lt. Commander Agunbiade also promised to use his influence as a US Naval Officer to raise a multimillion US Dollar endowment for FUNAAB, as recently done by an alumnus of University of Ibadan (UI).
“Mr. Olukehinde therefore, encouraged other alumni members of the University to see Lt. Commander Agunbiade’s gesture as a spur and tow same path.
“It would be recalled that Lt. Agunbiade alongside his family, paid a Courtesy Visit to the University on December 22, 2021 and instituted a N500,000 scholarship for two students in the Departments of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as Agricultural Economics.
In a related development, Lt. Commander Agunbiade was honoured by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta Alumni Association, USA Chapter, with the following inscription, “You are a Worthy Ambassador and We are Very Proud of You.”
Lt. Commander Victor Agunbiade was in Nigeria in late January, 2023 during the exercise Obangame Express 23, a military exercise conducted by U.S. Naval Forces Africa (NAVAF), and sponsored by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM).
Obangame Express 2023 (OE23), was designed to improve regional cooperation, information-sharing practices, and tactical interdiction expertise to enhance the collective capabilities of participating nations to counter Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU), fishing and other sea-based illicit activities.
Lt. Agunabiade holds a Bachelor of Agriculture from the Department of Agricultural Economics, College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), in 1997, and was the Sports Secretary of the FUNAAB Student Union in 1992/93 session.
