Two individuals lost their lives in a road accident at Azia junction, Ihiala on the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway in Anambra State on Friday.
The accident involved a lone unidentified commercial driver of a Mercedes truck and occurred around 9:30 am. Excessive speed and loss of control were cited as the causes of the crash.
According to an eyewitness, the driver, traveling at high speed, lost control of the vehicle, leading it to crash into a large gutter by the roadside.

Confirming the incident, Margaret Onabe, the acting Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, stated that two male adults, including the driver and his conductor, were involved in the crash. Sadly, both individuals lost their lives.
The deceased were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary in Ihiala by well-meaning citizens before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team. The team subsequently cleared the debris from the expressway, restoring normal traffic flow.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, extended condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to refrain from speeding. He emphasized the importance of driving within safe speed limits to ensure road safety for all.
