Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has announced that the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, has released N60 billion as the first tranche of a N120 billion support package to establish a 184-hectare Agro-Livestock Industrial Zone in Gombe.
The groundbreaking ceremony held on Saturday marked the start of this flagship project aimed at transforming Gombe into a regional hub for livestock development and agribusiness innovation. The zone will feature an ultramodern abattoir, an international livestock market, fattening hubs, a tannery and leather factory, a world-class grains and livestock feeds market, and an inland dry port.
Governor Yahaya highlighted that the automated abattoir will revolutionize meat processing in Gombe and Northern Nigeria by ensuring hygienic, efficient, and globally compliant processing and packaging, eliminating unsafe live animal transport. The project is expected to create thousands of jobs, boost productivity, encourage import substitution, and increase foreign earnings across the livestock value chain.
The Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, praised the initiative as aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to enhance animal processing capacity for local and international markets. He noted the facility will process 500 bulls, 1,000 small ruminants, and 3,000 poultry birds daily.
At the event, Governor Yahaya also declared his unwavering support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, citing the administration’s impactful investments in the livestock sector and broader economic development.
This project underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to agricultural transformation, food security, and sustainable economic growth in Nigeria’s Northern region.
