The Shawwal crescent has been sighted in Sudair and Tumair, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday.
It was observed across the Kingdom using a technique of astronomical imaging.
The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed the sighting and announced Friday as the beginning of Eid.

Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Turkey, Kuwait and Morocco also announced that Eid Al-Fitr would be celebrated on Friday, April 21, following the sighting of the crescent moon.
Earlier, the Federal Government of Nigeria had declared April 21st and 24th as public holidays to mark Eid el-Fitr.
