Abuja, Nigeria – Rumours are rife regarding the potential defection of former Vice President Namadi Sambo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speculation intensified after a picture of Sambo, who served under President Goodluck Jonathan, circulated widely, showing him alongside the Governor of Kaduna State, his home state. This image, coupled with a reported post on X (formerly Twitter) by an individual from Kaduna, has fueled the narrative of his imminent cross-over.
However, as of today, June 19, 2025, there has been no official confirmation from either Namadi Sambo, the PDP, or the APC regarding such a move. Despite the widespread reports, thorough fact-checking reveals that the information remains unofficial.
What is clear, however, is that several allies of the former Vice President have indeed transitioned from the PDP to the APC. The most prominent among them is Sanni Sidi, the former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), whose defection has been confirmed.

A source familiar with the political landscape, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that while a defection may be “in the works,” it has not yet been finalized. The source emphasized that any such significant political shift would be accompanied by official statements from both parties involved and would likely be marked by a public ceremony or “fanfare” when the time is right.
