Ibadan, Oyo State – In a bid to bolster administrative efficiency and service delivery at the local government level, the Oyo State Government has conducted a comprehensive capacity-building workshop for 453 Supervisory Councillors and 420 Special Assistants across the state’s 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The training, organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Ibadan, aimed to equip these key grassroots officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance governance within their respective domains.


Hon. Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, underscored the significance of the workshop as a catalyst for improved service delivery at the grassroots. Represented by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry, Mr. Oladotun Olamide, the Commissioner urged participants to proactively apply the acquired knowledge in their duties. He also lauded Governor ‘Seyi Makinde’s administration for its unwavering commitment to good governance across all parts of Oyo State. This commitment aligns with Governor Makinde’s repeated emphasis on strengthening local government administration for effective grassroots development.
Professor Kemisola Adenegan, the lead consultant from the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Ibadan, delivered lectures focusing on crucial knowledge, skills, and experiences required for the effective and efficient management of local government affairs. She encouraged the participants to actively engage in decision-making and governance processes within their constituencies.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Hon. Hammed Adebisi, the Supervisory Councillor for Youth and Sports in Iseyin Local Government, commended the initiative. He expressed optimism that the training would redefine local leaders’ approaches to problem-solving and grassroots development. Adebisi further called for more training sessions to empower local officials for enhanced governance and personal growth, emphasizing the need for strengthened administrative structures at the local government level, being the closest tier of government to the people.
