The killing of Bolanle Raheem, a female attorney, by a police officer working for the Ajah Police Station on Sunday, December 25th, the night of Christmas caused chaos in the Lagos State neighborhood of Ajah.
The police officer, who was accompanied by a squad of officers, is said to have departed the scene, further leaving the neighborhood in disarray.
However, it was later gathered that the police had apprehended and detained him. The police officer who shot the lawyer on Sunday, Christmas Day, is reportedly attached to Ajiwe Police Station.
ValidViewNetwork gathered that Raheem, her sister, and four kids were driving away from a restaurant in their automobile at approximately 11 o’clock when the officer attempted to pull them over.
According to a source, the woman was attempting to perform a U-turn beneath the Ajah Bridge when the officer opened fire on her car.
The victim was reportedly struck by the gunshot; she was taken to a hospital where it was confirmed that she had passed away.
A lawyer, Yvonne, who is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, and a close associate of the deceased, confirmed the gruesome killing.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police public relations officer, confirmed the sad development and stated that the officer was being held.
He said, “The officer involved in the shooting is an ASP; he has been arrested, detained, and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigations.”
When contacted, Vice Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, Abiye Tam-George, described the incident as shocking. Abiye said there was no justification for the gruesome killing of her colleague, adding that the leadership of NBA, Lagos Branch would visit the police station to hear the account of the police divisional officer of Ajiwe Police Station. She said they would also hear from the husband of the deceased.
“This is a willful murder. It is unprofessional to even raise a gun at somebody let alone kill the person. Like I said, I will be at the police station with members of the NBA to see the DPO. We received the news of our colleague’s death with deep pain,” she said.
However, the identity of the police officer has yet to be ascertained.
