The palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has disowned a claim by a man in a viral video who said the monarch was his father.
The spokesperson for the palace, Moses Olafare, on Thursday stated that the man engaged in an act of impersonation and that the matter had been reported to the security agencies.
Olafare emphasized that Oba Ogunwusi knew and acknowledged all his children and would take full responsibility for them.
The palace declared that the self-acclaimed prince was unknown to them and the Ile-Ife populace.

The statement clarified that the Ooni of Ife had several children whose identities were well known to the palace and the people of Ile-Ife. It listed the names and locations of his children, noting that any claim of paternity by the individual in the viral video was fraudulent.
The palace condemned the impersonation and called for a thorough investigation by the law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrator to justice swiftly.
It urged anyone with useful information about the impersonator to come forward and assist in the investigation.
Furthermore, the release emphasized the palace’s commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people and warned against attempts to undermine or tarnish its legacy through fraudulent means.
