The Ogun State government has underscored the importance of its campaign against the indiscriminate erection of structures, emphasizing the need to prevent potential hazards posed by illegal development.
TPL. Olatunji Odunlami, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring orderly development in line with the state’s Master Plan.
He made these remarks during a routine enforcement exercise conducted by the Central Monitoring Unit of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) in Abeokuta South Local Government and the interchange area of the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway.
Representing the Commissioner, Mr. Babatunde Olugbewesa, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Physical Planning Compliance and Enforcement, reiterated the government’s resolve to enhance the quality of life for residents by maintaining a well-structured physical environment.

During an interview with journalists, TPL. James Idowu, the Acting General Manager of OGPDPA, highlighted the necessity of clearing kiosks and shanties in front of African Church Grammar School, Ita-Iyalode.
He warned against commercial activities around public school premises, stressing that such practices would not be tolerated.
TPL. Idowu confirmed that the Ministry had issued prior notices of contravention to the individuals involved before commencing enforcement actions.
He emphasized, “There is no justification for illegal structures, and the government cannot overlook such violations. Shanties pose environmental risks due to poor hygiene and the potential for disease outbreaks. Erecting structures without proper permits is unacceptable.”
Furthermore, he noted that shanty settlements along the expressway were discouraged in Ogun State, as they could jeopardize the safety and well-being of residents.
The government remains resolute in upholding the rule of law and ensuring a conducive environment for all citizens.
