President Bola Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties, issued on November 23, 2025, during a security meeting in Abuja, has seen robust enforcement by the Nigeria Police Force. The policy redirects officers to essential policing tasks like crime prevention and community protection, with VIPs now advised to seek armed personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

A special enforcement team, formed at Force Headquarters, conducted a thorough monitoring operation in Lagos State on December 6, 2025, starting around 10:00 a.m. Key sites checked included the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and other strategic locations. No unauthorized VIP escorts were found, resulting in zero arrests and demonstrating high adherence by police officers.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has affirmed the Force’s dedication to the order, with over 11,566 officers already recalled from VIP roles and reassigned to schools and public security points nationwide. Earlier signals from the IGP, including a November 30 wireless message, mandated arrests for any officers on such “illegal duties,” underscoring strict nationwide rollout.

The public remains urged to support these reforms, as the Nigeria Police Force pushes for professional, citizen-focused operations to bolster national security. Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin emphasized ongoing vigilance without exceptions
