…As Abiodun receives new Police boss
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that his administration has acquired Drones for effective monitoring and response to criminal activities along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and other major highways across the State.
The governor disclosed this on Friday when he received the newly deplored Commissioner of Police to the state, CP Oladimeji Yomi Olarenwaju who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor emphasized the need to effectively police the State, being the industrial hub, education and religious capital of the country as well as the gateway from Lagos to other parts of the country.
“Recently, We have acquired Drones to allow us monitor, particularly, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and other major highways so that we can identify treat and respond to them with dispatch.
“CP Oladimeji, you have your job cut out for you. We have in the past had farmer/herders crisis, we are facing issues of cultism that has continue to be on the rise which we find very strange.
”There are issues of kidnapping here and there but I must thank the men and women of our law enforcement architecture including the Police, DSS, the military, Civil Defence and other members of our security architecture for the hard work that has earned us the enviable title as one of the most peaceful States in Nigeria”, the noted.
The governor commended the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba for his support to the state and ensuring the deployment of reputable and capable officers as police commissioner to the atate.
He informed that the IGP during his working visit to his office at the Force headquarters in Abuja donated a Water Canon Dispenser Vehicle and an Armoured Personnel Carrier to the state
Welcoming the new CP to the State, governor Abiodun urged him to use his wealth of experience and knowledge of the state to to not only sustain the enviable record of his predecessors, but to surpass it by working with other security chiefs, to rid the State of crimes and criminalities.
The governor who described the new CP as well rounded in law enforcement and litigation assured him of government support in tackling crime and criminality.
Speaking earlier, the new commissioner of police said his mission in Ogun is to ensure law abiding residents sleep with their eyes closed
CP Olarenwaju also assured the governor and the people of the state of a crime free environment stressing that the police would be tough on criminals and friendly to law abiding citizens.
“My mission statement in Ogun state is to ensure that all law abiding citizens of Ogun State sleep with their eyes closed and enjoyed the fruit of their labour without unnecessarily beng harassed by criminals”
“we are going to be tough on criminals and we would be friendly to all law abiding citizens. We are assuring your excellency and all law abiding citizens of Ogun state that we are not going to rest on our oars in pursuing criminals and making Ogun state free.” He stated.
The new commissioner of police is a history and political science graduate who had served as Divisional Police Officer in Mowe and Ilaro as well as Area Commander Ilaro.
