Osun State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day by granting amnesty to 36 convicts incarcerated at the Nigerian Correctional Service centers in Ilesa and Ile-Ife. The decision, in line with Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), was based on recommendations from the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
In a formal proclamation dated September 24, 2025, Governor Adeleke declared the remission of all pains, penalties, and punishments on the identified convicts, effectively ordering their release. The gesture symbolizes the spirit of compassion, justice, and renewal that Independence Day embodies.
Governor Adeleke stated, “This amnesty is not only a gesture of freedom but a call for true rehabilitation, reintegration, and a fresh start for these individuals. Our administration remains steadfast in upholding justice while extending mercy to deserving citizens.”
