The Ondo State Police Command announced on Wednesday that they had apprehended a 17-year-old girl, identified as Wumi, for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death.
The tragic incident occurred at the Oda, Akure residence of the deceased, last Wednesday.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the family of the deceased claimed that the suspect was suffering from mental illness, although the command had not received the medical report to confirm this assertion.
“The suspect is in our custody, and we have commenced an investigation into the matter.
However, the family informed us that the suspect had a history of mental health issues. Therefore, we are awaiting the medical report to verify this claim.

The deceased had been a foster mother to the suspect, caring for her since her childhood,” said the PPRO.
The decomposing body of the deceased, who was employed at the Ondo State Ministry of Finance, was discovered at her residence last Sunday, three days after the fatal attack.
A neighbor of the deceased, speaking anonymously, revealed that Mrs. Adelayi was stabbed in the abdominal area and that the doors were shut, preventing her from seeking assistance.
“There was blood throughout the house, indicating that she struggled to reach out for help.
Tragically, the doors were closed, trapping her inside. The murder weapon was found next to her body. It’s an incredibly sad situation,” the neighbor stated.
The remains of the deceased have been transferred to the morgue of a hospital in Akure, according to another source.
