
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State has revealed names of 95 individuals who applied for the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the revered stool became vacant after the passage of Oba Dr Sikiru Kayode Adetona, on July 13,2025, having reigned for 65 remarkable years.
The Funsegbuwa Ruling House made the list known at the nomination meeting held in Ijebu-Ode, on Monday.
Among the individuals vying for the revered stool is a renowned ophthalmic surgeon, Dr Adekunle Hassan; joint chairman, ARON Construction Nigeria Limited, Prince Fatai Adesegun, and the husband to former deputy governor of the State, Otunba Abiodun Onanuga.
Only one female, Princess Oluwakemi Onanuga, showed interest in the stool.
Addressing representatives of various family lines within the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, the Olori Ebi and Chairman, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, informed that the process of filling the vacant stool began about three months ago.
Owoyemi, a former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), said the family had the kind of nomination meeting about a 100 years ago, describing the meeting as an historic one.
He said the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is ready to produce the 60th Awujale of Ijebuland at the end of the whole exercise.
Owoyemi said names of those nominated would be forwarded to the Kingmakers for screening, while revealing that 94 princes and one princess applied to occupy the seat.
