……says He put everything on the line
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the Federal Government of Nigeria is proud of the legacy of the late Lt Gen Oladipo Diya, whom he said served effectively as Vice President under the regime of the late Gen. Sani Abacha.
Osinbajo, who stated this during a condolence visit to the Diya family at the deceased’s home in Lagos, on Friday, said Diya would be remembered.
He said: “We are here to express the sincere condolence of the President and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to my worthy predecessor in office, Lt Gen Oladipo Diya.
“He served as an effective Vice President under the regime of General Sani Abacha and served his country loyally and with great conviction.
“He put everything on the line for his country, not just as a soldier, but later, as a political leader and he served with forthrightness and we’re extremely proud of him.”
He noted that the life of the former CGS under the Abacha military regime revealed that one could serve one’s nation long after leaving public service.
“He showed us that you can live and serve your nation and serve well even after office, serve again and work hard even in private life,” Osinbajo said during a condolence visit to the family of the late elder stateman in Ikeja, the Lagos State capital.
ValidView Network had earlier reported that the former Chief of General Staff died on March 26 at the age of 79.
