Both father, Ayodele Falomo, 56, and his son, Ayoola, 23, who were in December, 2022 arraigned for allegedly beating a doctor over the death of wife and mother respectively have apologised to the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, the Association of Resident Doctors, the Nigerian Medical Association, Ogun Stae and specifically Dr. Pelumi Somorin.
The duo were arraigned before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting the victim, Dr Pelumi Somorin, a staff of the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
The two accused persons were reported to have slapped the doctor.
The defendants were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and assault.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Both father and son had insisted that the doctor killed their family member due to negligence.
They said they were enraged by the alleged non-challance of the doctor, adding that she was pressing her phone while the deceased was groaning with pain.
Also corroborating his father, Ayoola said he threatened to take the picture of the doctor and post it on the Internet.
According to him, she dragged the phone with him to stop him from taking her picture.
There were reported cases of unwarranted attack of staff my members of the Public and the authorities of the Federal Medical Centre had warned that members of the public who harass staff shall be made to face the law.
Meanwhile, during the court sitting, the Magistrate, I.O. Abudu, gave the parties a chance to resolve the matter amicably.
In an open letter of apology published today on Page 30 of The Nation newspaper today , May 12, both father and son apologised for their actions. The publication titled apology read : ” I, Ayodele Falomo and my son, Ayoola Falomo do sincerelyapologise to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, The Association of Resident Doctorsof the hospital , the Nigeria Medical Association , Ogun State and specifically Dr. Pelumi Somorin over the unwarranted assault melted on Dr. PelumiSomorin. We are sorry for the embarrasmentthat followed this reaction. It was as a result of our emotional outburstto the death of my wife at the hospital’s facilities on the 20th of December, 2022. We use this medium to tender our apology to hardworking Doctorsin FMC Abeokutaand to Dr. Somorin Pelumi.”
