Hon. Justice A.A. Omoniyi of High Court 3 in the Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division ruled on December 22, 2025, that Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, known as KWAM 1, failed to establish merit for his interim injunction request. The court denied the order seeking to restrain Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, and others from advancing the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland. Justice Omoniyi directed an expedited hearing on the main suit and set January 14, 2026, for continuation.
Case Background
KWAM 1, titled Olori Omo-Oba of Ijebuland by the late Awujale Oba Sikiru Adetona from the Fidipote Ruling House, filed suit HC3/238/2025 on December 16, 2025. He claimed bona fide membership in both Fidipote and Fusengbuwa ruling houses, whose turn it is under the rotational order in the 1959 Awujale Chieftaincy Declaration. KWAM 1 argued procedural flaws, including influence by an “unrecognized” Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and sought to pause nominations pending resolution.
Ruling House Disputes
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House rejected KWAM 1’s lineage claim in a December 11, 2025, letter, declaring his linkage form “null, void” after finding no proof of ties to the Jadiara Royal House or broader lineage. Chairman Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi cited improper endorsement by an unauthorized family head. Meanwhile, Fidipote asserted eligibility after Fusengbuwa allegedly missed the 14-day nomination deadline by December 16, 2025, per Ogun State’s 2021 Chieftaincy Law, and scheduled its own candidate screening for December 20.
Prior Developments
Ogun State Government nullified an earlier selection process on December 17 due to procedural errors by Ijebu-Ode Local Government, invoking the 2021 Obas and Chiefs Law. Over 60 aspirants reportedly vied initially, with state intervention aimed at avoiding litigation. KWAM 1 publicly defended his candidacy, invoking honors like Mayegun of Yorubaland and national awards.
